Welcome! I’m so glad that you’re here.
I’m Kate Shungu, a life-long student of food and a big fan of eating dinner at the table. I started early, pulling up a chair to the kitchen counter to watch my mom cook dinner each night for my dad, brother, and me. We gathered around the table at 6:30pm on the dot for dinner, mostly just the four of us, sometimes with an extra chair set for a friend or two.
Now that I’m married to my husband Longe, we’re beginning our own dinnertime traditions. We share many meals between the two of us (mostly at the table, and occasionally on the couch when there’s a football game to watch). But our favorite meals are shared with a group of friends. We love to host and entertain, and in fact, I crave it. I crave people coming over, eating a good meal, and sharing a meaningful conversation.
I crave it because I am gifted with it. The gift of hospitality is a Biblical term that refers to a spiritual gift. You can read more about that here!
I love to gather people together. Because despite our many differences, humans have one things in common. We all need to eat, and we all eat about three times per day. I can’t think of a better excuse to gather people than to gather them around food.
Throughout the blog, you’ll find recipes for dinners and dinner parties, easy entertaining ideas, dinnertime conversation starters, tips on thoughtful entertaining, and much more. Find me on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date with the latest!
More About Me
Cooking for people is one of my greatest joys, and cooking for my husband Longe is no exception. We make our home in Chicago, and thankfully Longe loves to entertain just as much as I do.
I’ve worked in the corporate world for 10 years, both in the commercial real estate and food industries. I’m so grateful that my career path has led me here, where I do freelance marketing and writing.
