Welcome! I hope you’re hungry.
I’m Kate Shungu, a life-long student of food. I started early, pulling up a chair to the kitchen counter to watch my mom cook dinner each night for our family. I was always finding something new to make—I couldn’t have been much older than 8 or 9 when I asked my mom if I could make divinity, a sweet Southern treat made with egg whites and sugar. They were a little runny, but it fed a curiosity to explore the world of food.
That same curiosity fuels my passion for cooking today. People ask me for my favorite dish, and I always answer, “Anything I haven’t made before.” I love to experiment and discover new tastes, textures, and combinations, and I’m excited to share that with you here.
Most of us need to eat three times a day (sometimes more!) and many of us are also tasked with preparing food for others. I’m setting out to create an arsenal of ideas for dinnertime, sometimes simple and sometimes a little more complex. Some are just for you, some are for you plus one, and some are for a whole gathering of friends or family.
So much of life is shared around the table, so pull up a chair and let’s dig in!
More About Me
Cooking for people is one of my greatest joys, and cooking for my husband Longe is no exception. We make our home in Chicago, and thankfully Longe loves to entertain just as much as I do.
I’ve worked in commercial real estate, I’ve taught cooking classes at a popular health food grocer, and I’ve managed corporate marketing and communications for a gourmet grocer in the Chicago suburbs. I’m so grateful for that non-traditional career path—one that has led me here!
